On 2 September, the new Fishponds Church of England Academy in Bristol became the first Academy sponsored by the Diocese, opening its doors for the first year of its new status.

John Swainston was appointed Director of Educaiton in October 2012. He joined the department in January 2012 as Partnership Adviser to work with all our schools, including Academies.

We are keen to support Church schools, whatever their status, through the rapidly changing educational climate. He is also involved in developing service provision for schools and in developing new school networks.
