Early Years RE - Persona Dolls

Many teachers speak of the power of having familiar persona dolls in the classroom and the imaginative way in which young children can exercise their curiosity about difference. They can ask the doll questions and become familiar with her/his beliefs which provides an excellent start for RE.

Downloadable here is a short article called 'Using Persona Dolls with Young Children'. There are also five series of sessions for dolls, each with accompanying PowerPoint presentations of them in their places of worship. Click on their names to download the sessions and PowerPoint slides.

- Joe (Judaism)
- Rita (Hinduism)
- Hassan (Islam)
- Malkit (Sikhism)
- Elizabeth (Christianity)

If you want to borrow a persona doll we have several available here at All Saints: Joe, Rita, Hassan, Malkit, Elizabeth and Ed the Buddhist boy. There are also two Christian priest dolls (one male, one female) and a bishop doll as well as other generic dolls which could be used for role-play in SMSC teaching.
