This is an optional lesson which asks students to debate issues around sexual orientation. This is included in the diocese's "Love & Sex Matters" material as it was recommended under the curriculum review undertaken in 2010 (by the previous Government) that this topic be covered in KS3.

The Diocesan vision emphasises creating new communities and initiatives where Christ is central. St Augustine saw Christ’s role in the Trinity as ‘understanding’ - triangulating memory  (the Father) and will (the Holy Spirit). The Centre’s first aim is to promote and equip a better understanding of the Christian faith.

Just as Christ is ‘understanding’, He is also humanity. The Resource Centre intends to be more than a physical place with materials of spiritual value - it’s also about people and the Centre can be a network.

Maybe you’d benefit in your role or at your church from professional advice or training from Diocesan staff. Perhaps you have a need, or something to offer, or are looking for ways to ‘put your faith to work’. The Centre may be able to point you in the right direction. Get in touch!

Our most popular items with teachers are the project boxes tailored to match locally agreed RE syllabuses. They contain a mixture of selected books, posters and artefacts. Boxes can be assembled on demand or matched to a teacher’s specific needs e.g. LA scheme of work, year group, specific subject matter. Teachers may pre-order project boxes for the whole year or on an ad hoc basis. Each box can be borrowed for between 6 and 12 weeks.

A project box on IslamA list of the ready-assembled project boxes at the Centre is downloadable below. There are 'generic' boxes to cover a subject for a year group (e.g. Judaism for Key Stage 1) as well as boxes fitting the Awareness, Mystery and Value scheme of work (e.g. Key Stage 2 Unit 2 How Should We Live and Who Can Inspire Us?). Links to lesson plans for some syllabus units are also available on the website - How Should We Live and Who Can Inspire Us? for example.
